Transportation.com Expects to Buck Web Industry Trend

Transportation.com waded into the murky waters of online exchanges early last month and is attempting to debunk a rising notion that dot.coms are black holes for money.

A subsidiary of Yellow Corp., Transportation.com is offering load-matching and an auction for truck equipment. It also offers shipment management and consulting services.

In three weeks of business, Transportation.com, which along with Yellow is based in Overland, Park, Kan., has made 225 freight matches and sold 51 small trailers, 19 tractors, five forklifts, two straight trucks and two yard tractors.

Jim Ritchie, Transportation.com’s president, said the number of load matches were fewer than the company had hoped. Nevertheless, he said the auction results and the 1,700 people, including 342 active users, exceeded the company’s three-week expectations.
