TravelCenters Receives $10.7 Million From Comdata in Lawsuit

TravelCenters of America reported that Delaware’s Chancery Court awarded attorney’s fees and costs that the company incurred in its litigation with Comdata Inc., the Brentwood, Tenn.-based payments firm and division of Fleetcor. TravelCenters reported that Comdata on April 13 reimbursed about $10.7 million in costs and interest.

Last September, the court rejected Comdata’s claims that TravelCenters had breached agreements requiring Comdata to process customer transactions using Comdata cards at set fees through Jan. 22, 2022. The ruling meant Comdata had to honor the terms of the agreements.

TravelCenters reported in the second quarter of 2017 a net loss of $3 million “primarily due to $5.3 million of litigation costs and what we believe to be excess transaction fees we incurred related to our dispute with Fleetcor Technologies Inc. and its subsidiary Comdata,” according to a statement at that time by TravelCenters CEO Thomas O’Brien.

TravelCenters operates its truck stops in 43 states and Canada in addition to standalone convenience stores and restaurants. The trucks stops use the brand names TravelCenters of America, TA, Petro Shopping Centers and Petro.
