Trimac Eyes Expansion into Mexico

Trimac Transportation prepared to expand its operations between the United States and Mexico by acquiring an 80% interest in Amer-Liquid Transport of Brownsville, Texas, and signing a deal to do business with the bulk transporter’s former owner.

Trimac signed a five-year operating agreement with Transportes Intermex S.A. de C.V., which will retain a 20% interest in Amer-Liquid.

Trimac has engaged in cross-border operations since 1993 under an interline arrangement with Intermex, a Mexican tank truck carrier based in Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico.

Amer-Liquid operates 38 power units and 53 trailers, principally in bulk transportation, as well as a full-service terminal that includes maintenance facilities, internal tank-cleaning bays and a rail transfer operation at the Port of Brownsville, through which freight is shipped to the port of entry in Matamoros, Mexico.

Trimac is based in Calgary, Alberta, but manages its U.S. operations from headquarters in Louisville, Ky.
