cLEAN, Va. — Truck manufacturers and fleets demonstrated new, high-tech safety features in their vehicles last week as part of the Intelligent Vehicle Initiative annual meeting here.
Among companies represented June 24 at the Federal Highway Administration’s Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center were US Xpress Inc. and Freightliner LLC. Both demonstrated several products that apply information technology to truck safety problems.
Prominent among the systems were right-side video cameras, radar-using collision-avoidance systems demonstrated on both Freightliners and US Xpress Volvos, a rollover adviser and control system installed on a Freightliner, and blind-spot elimination.
