Truck Sales May Get Worse Before They Get Better

The current downturn in demand for new Class 8 trucks has not hit bottom yet and things cannot get better until they get worse, a trendline analysis by the market consulting firm of A.G. Edwards indicates.

The study, which examined the market through last August, is based on the use of trends going back over several business cycles to 1983.

Edwards limited its direct analysis and recommendations to Navistar International Corp. (NAV) and Paccar (PCAR), the only two truck makers traded in the U.S. as manufacturers rather than as parts of larger enterprises.
