Trucker Is a Life-Saver in Ohio

A good Samaritan trucker jumped into a burning wreck to save a fellow truck driver, but quickly vanished before he could be rewarded for his good deed.

Last Friday, Cory Swanson, was hauling turkeys for Grand Island Express of Grand Island, Neb., on Interstate 70 near Dayton, Ohio, when he lost control of his vehicle. The truck rolled over a guardrail and exploded.

Two truckers who saw the accident happen tried unsuccessfully to rescue Mr. Swanson. Bret Andrysiak, the first to arrive on the scene, said the heat from the 10-foot high flames finally forced them to give up.

That’s when a third, trucker showed up, picked up a fire extinguisher and smashed through the truck’s sunroof. The men were then able to pull the dazed Mr. Swanson out.

Just as soon as he arrived the unknown hero hopped back into his truck and drove off. "He’s your Lone Ranger," said Mr. Andrysiak, "He came in and then took off."

Mr. Swanson, who was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton for bumps and bruises, was charged with failing to control his vehicle.
