Trucking Executives, Customs Service Schedule Border Security Meeting

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Trucking executives were scheduled to meet last week with U.S. Customs Service officials to iron out details of two programs intended to speed the flow of freight and halt potentially suspicious cross-border shipments between the United States and Canada.

The meeting, to take place after Transport Topics' Oct. 17 deadline, was intended to hash out kinks in cross-border initiatives that trucking generally favors, said Sandra Scott, Roadway Express international trade and customs advocate.

"Cross-border trucking has an effect on trucking throughout the whole country, so speeding flows across the border also will improve trucking efficiency in the heartland," Scott said of the importance of implementing the programs.
