OUISVILLE, Ky. — The sprawling Mid-America Trucking Show here, the largest of its kind, was bigger than ever in 2006 as about 80,000 people crisscrossed more than 1.2 million square feet of exhibit space, organizers said.

The previous attendance record was 76,650 last year, while the number of exhibitors rose to 1,144 from 1,127 and total exhibit space jumped 20%.

Exhibit space included 200,000 square feet outside the Kentucky Exposition Center to accommodate used truck sales, displays of show trucks and oil company educational trailers, said Toby Young, vice president of operations with Exhibit Management Associates Inc.

All in all, it was a huge show, a major record breaker,” he told Transport Topics after the event.

The show ran March 23-25 and was preceded by a full day of press conferences by manufacturers of products ranging from heavy-duty engines to cab interiors.
