The Allies victory in Europe sparked hopeful comment among trucking industry officials about the easing of war-time restrictions on the production of new commercial vehicles and shortages of parts, tires and motor fuel.

The May 14, 1945 edition of Transport Topics also featured a story about the Office of Defense Transportation issuing an order giving veterans preference in obtaining certificates to operate a truck to haul freight.
