Union Pacific Corp.’s fourth-quarter profit 41% on higher volume, the railroad said Thursday.
Net income rose to $775 million, or $1.56 per share, from $549 million, or $1.08, UP said in a statement.
Revenue rose 17% to $4.4 billion, led by a 27% increase in industrial products revenue and a 25% gain in intermodal revenue.
For the full year UP earned $2.8 billion, or $5.53 per share, up from $1.9 billion, or $3.74, in 2009. Revenue rose to $17 billion from $14.1 billion.
Union Pacific, which operates west of the Mississippi River, is the largest U.S. freight railroad by revenue.
