Uniroyal Launches Truck Tire Lines in US Market for Small Fleets

Tire maker Uniroyal launched sales of six commercial truck tires in the U.S. market geared to owner-operators and small fleets.

The company started shipping the tires to its dealers this week, Donna Murphy, business segment manager for Uniroyal Commercial Truck Tires, said during a Jan. 13 webinar and press conference. “So within the next days, they will be in the marketplace, if not already.”  Uniroyal is a brand of Michelin North America.

In a statement, the company said the new tire line provides an affordable offer for every tire position and application — from longhaul to regional to on/off-road, including dry vans, flatbeds, construction and pickup-and-delivery vehicles.

The intermediate and budget portions of the market “have been growing over the last several years, and they continue to do so,” Murphy said. The Michelin group has decided that “it’s an opportune time for us to add the Uniroyal brand to our commercial truck tire offerings,” she said, noting it provides dealers and truck operators multiple offers for their business needs.

Two of the tires are SmartWay-verified and meet Environmental Protection Agency requirements for fuel efficiency, the company said.

Uniroyal dates to 1892 as the United States Rubber Co. and since 1990 the company has been a Michelin subsidiary. The “target end user” of Uniroyal tends to be “price-conscious owner-operators and small fleets,” Murphy said, noting they are looking for “dependable tires at an affordable price.” They also tend to operate both new and used vehicles, she said.

The Uniroyal truck line includes six tread designs with 28 sizes, the company said. They include longhaul and regional tires and drive, steer and trailer tires.

Uniroyal commercial truck tires have a four-year manufacturer’s limited warranty, the company said. The tires are covered by a one-retread limited warranty.
