University of Alabama Joins Research Center Network

The University of Alabama has been added to a list of schools across the nation that are assisting the federal government to conduct research into what makes transportation tick and how to make its various components work better.

In lending a helping hand to improve education and increase interest in the field, the Department of Transportation has given the university a $655,500 grant and has expanded its network of academic research centers.

The money from the Research and Special Programs Administration, a unit of DOT, will fund the University Transportation Center for Alabama, one of 33 such programs whose focus includes the economic, educational, planning, safety and technological aspects of transportation.
