Detroit, a unit of Daimler Truck North America, announced its Detroit DD13 engine is now available with new features and power ratings focused on efficiency, robustness and thermal management, as well as with standard connected-vehicle services.
New vocational-focused ratings deliver up to 525 horsepower and 1850 pound-feet of torque, and are designed for job site applications including mixers, municipal, vacuum trucks, and oil field. These ratings have additional power at the upper end of the rpm band and more torque at the low end compared with the current DD13, according to the Detroit-based engine maker. Many of the key components in the DD13 Gen 5 engine have reduced packaging complexity and are more durable to achieve an even higher level of reliability compared with previous generations.
