UPS Inc. said Monday it has set a goal to increase its automotive fuel efficiency by 20% between 2000 and 2020.
The goal applies to UPS’s fleet of 60,000 ground vehicles, the parcel carrier said.
UPS has already increased fuel efficiency 10% from 2000 to 2009. To accomplish this, the company used improved vehicle technology, effective maintenance, fuel conservation, routing technology, and operation initiatives such as minimizing idling, UPS said.
UPS announced the goal as part of an annual update to its Sustainability Report, which outlines achievements and objectives toward sustainability, the company said.
UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
