UPS to Buy Two Costa Rican Freight Companies

UPS Inc. has agreed to buy two Costa Rican freight companies, a parcel carrier and freight broker, that it said will improve the ability of customers both inside and outside the country to ship.

Parcel carrier Union Pak de Costa Rica and SEISA Brokerage already have relationships with UPS as authorized service contractors, UPS said in its Sept. 4 statement. Union Pak specializes in serving the high-tech and medical device industries, and SEISA focuses on customs clearance and delivery within Costa Rica’s free trade zone.

“With the ownership of these operations in Costa Rica, UPS can provide customers the full suite of logistics services and global trade expertise,” Romaine Seguin, UPS’ president for the Americas, region said in the statement.

UPS did not disclose the terms but said it expects both deals to be completed in the fourth quarter.
