UPS Inc. said Friday it has pledged $1.5 million in cash and in-kind support to help recovery efforts to areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
UPS said all of its package, freight and logistics operations have been restored and that its employees throughout the region are working to provide service to affected areas, although many businesses remain closed and some locations are inaccessible.
Its drivers are attempting deliveries wherever safety allows, the company said.
“The UPS team has answered the call and everyone involved is going above and beyond to bring relief and hope to those impacted by the storm,” UPS Chairman and CEO Scott Davis said in a statement.
The contributions include a $250,000 grant to the American Red Cross to help with the sheltering needs of the victims of Sandy, $250,000 in logistical aid for urgent response and an additional $1 million in cash and in-kind support to a variety of relief organizations throughout 2013 to assist in the long-term recovery of communities affected by the storm.
UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
