UPS to Raise Freight Rates

United Parcel Service will boost rates by 3.1% for ground package delivery and 2.9% or more for its other offerings on Feb. 7.

Customers will have to ante up an extra 3.5% for Next-Day Air, Second-Day Air and 3-Day Select deliveries when the new fees take effect.

UPS will maintain a $1 premium for ground service to most residential addresses, but will increase the surcharge to $1.50 in certain ZIP codes.

Rates for international shipments from the United States will climb 2.9%, the first increase in three years, UPS said. No increase is planned for import rates, which were simplified with a single currency and globally zoned rates last summer.
