Move Is Due to Economic Uncertainty

In a switch from previous years, UPS Inc. will not forecast a peak day for holiday shipping this year because the slowing U.S. economy is making such a prediction too difficult, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Company spokesman Norman Black said the company was “not comfortable making public projections this year,” due to the uncertain U.S. economy, Bloomberg reported.

UPS’ peak volume had been scheduled for release Tuesday.

The company began giving holiday volume projections in the 1980s, and after its 1999 initial public offering scaled back to project just a peak shipping day near Christmas, Bloomberg reported.

UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
