URS Expands Auto Hauling Network

United Road Services, Albany, N.Y., has purchased three auto haulers and a towing company, and agreed to buy two other businesses, adding to its expanding network of towing, recovery and transport companies.

URS has made more than a dozen acquisitions since going public in May 1998 in an effort to establish the first national system of carhauling and towing services (2-15, p. 6).

The acquisitions strengthen the company’s presence in the Northwest and Midwest and, according to Edward T. Sheehan, chairman of URS, will expand the service network to the state of Florida.
