US DOT Offers Universities Nearly $73 Million to Expand Transportation Research
The U.S. Department of Transportation is making available up to $72.5 million in fiscal 2016 for universities looking to expand their transportation research initiatives.
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on March 1 announced the department is seeking applications for its University Transportation Centers program, which will look to award $377.5 million over the next five years.
”Our universities are at the forefront of solution-oriented research addressing America’s changing demographics and increased freight volumes, and ensuring improved access to economic opportunity nationwide. We have some of the best universities in the world, and I am calling on them to innovate and think big,” Foxx said.
Grant recipients will be tasked with developing health and safety systems that enhance transportation opportunities around the country as well as research technologies and come up with ways to reduce vehicle emissions. Letters of intent from applicants must be submitted by April 1. Applications are due by May 13. The awards will be announced in December.
