ATA, CVSA Join Other Groups Urging Delay of Background Check Requirements

s several major groups last week joined calls for the government to delay fast-approaching deadlines for criminal background checks of hazardous materials drivers, a spokesman for one agency said the government was weighing that issue.

“The whole matter of the deadline is under consideration,” David Longo, deputy director of public and consumer affairs for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, told Transport Topics July 10.

Longo said that FMCSA and the Transportation Security Administration were working together on the rule, but that TSA had primary responsibility.
