U.S. Trade Deficit Expands in October

The U.S. trade deficit increased by 4.9% in October, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

The gap between imports and exports grew to $42.2 billion from $40.3 billion in September.

Commerce previously estimated the September gap to be $41.5 billion.

Economists had projected a $42.7 billion deficit for October, Bloomberg reported.



Imports decreased 2.1% to $222.8 billion, while exports declined 3.6% to $180.5 billion.
