Engineering and research company PIT Group announced truckload carrier U.S. Xpress Inc. joined its membership organization following the success of in-service fuel consumption tests PIT Group carried out at the carrier’s facilities in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, last November.

“By collaborating with the PIT Group, we will be able to quickly obtain reliable results about fuel-saving technologies,” Gerry Mead, senior vice president of maintenance at U.S. Xpress, said in a statement. “We take fuel economy very seriously, and we believe that PIT Group membership will help validate the decisions we make about our equipment.”

Quebec-based PIT Group said it specializes in accelerating truck-related technology implementation through testing and fleet advisory services.

U.S. Xpress, a subsidiary of Chattanooga, Tennessee-based U.S. Xpress Enterprises, is the second-largest privately owned truckload carrier in the United States with a fleet of 8,000 tractors and 22,000 trailers, PIT Group said.

U.S. Xpress Enterprises ranks No. 19 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire fleets. It also ranks No. 32 on the Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.

Other U.S.-based carriers that are members of the PIT Group include Praxair, Experior Transport, Skyline Transportation and Keller Logistics.
