U.S. Xpress’ Second-Quarter Income Falls

Truckload carrier U.S. Xpress Enterprises said late Wednesday its second-quarter profit fell to $2.7 million or 18 cents a share, from $5.7 million or 37 cents a year ago.

Revenue rose 2.8% to $400.3 million, the company said in a statement.

Truckload revenue excluding fuel surcharges rose 3.8% to $319.6 million. Truckload operating income fell 38.4% to $8.5 million a year ago.

Last month, U.S. Xpress’ Co-Chairmen Patrick Quinn and Max Fuller said they will offer $20 a share to buy the company and take it private.



U.S. Xpress is ranked No. 18 on the 2007 Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
