Truckload carrier USA Truck said it will fit almost all of its trailers with a new tracking system.
The Van Buren, Ark.-based carrier will begin installing SkyBitz’s trailer-tracking units during the current quarter, eventually outfitting about 6,000 trailers with the technology, USA Truck said Tuesday.
“We were looking for more real-time data to help us improve customer service and equipment utilization while reducing unnecessary headaches for our drivers,” USA Truck President Cliff Beckham said. “We should be able to operate with a more efficient trailer-to-tractor ratio than we would otherwise.”
USA Truck is in the process of overhauling its information technology systems, a project that primarily involves replacing internally developed, self-hosted back-office software with off-the-shelf, server-based software, the company said.
USA Truck is ranked No. 54 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. SkyBitz is based in Sterling, Va.
