USA Truck Reports $1.9 Million Loss

Truckload carrier USA Truck said Thursday it lost $1.9 million in the first quarter, due to “sluggish freight demand.”

USA Truck lost $1.9 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with earning $80,000, or 1 cent, in the previous first quarter.

Revenue rose 2.8%, $97.1 million, the company said Thursday.

“This quarter was one of the most difficult operating environments that we have ever seen,” said Chief Executive Officer Clifton Beckham. “It was characterized primarily by sluggish freight demand, industry-wide tractor overcapacity and rising fuel prices, all of which adversely impacted our earnings.”

USA Truck is ranked No. 57 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
