The union representing truck drivers at Port Metro Vancouver said 400 of its members will strike the evening of March 5.

The strike, authorized in a March 2 vote, is to protest what Unifor’s Vancouver Container Truck Association sees as low wages and long wait times for drivers, the Canadian Press reported.

If drivers go through with the strike, they will join the 1,200 to 1,300 nonunion truck drivers who have refused to work since Feb. 26 for similar reasons.

Port Metro Vancouver said it is working with the trucking industry, shippers and other stakeholders to find solutions to the problems drivers have presented.
