Veriha Enterprise, which owns a Wisconsin-based trucking company of the same name, announced that it will open a driving school in January to provide training for heavy-truck driver candidates and support future fleet growth.

The Veriha Driving Academy in Marinette will have annual capacity to train between 100 and 150 drivers to work for Veriha Trucking, holding a CDL-A license.

In a statement, Veriha noted that the industry will have to hire 89,000 drivers annually over the next 10 years, citing American Trucking Associations.

Karen Smerchek and Joe Veriha, who own the company, said in a statement that students who are accepted can be supported with financial assistance and tuition reimbursement.

The school is scheduling two-week classroom training, followed by two or three weeks of paid training. Graduates will work in either home daily or regional service.

The earnings projections include as much as $45,000 in the first year, with up to $10,000 more in each of the following two years. Five trainers have been selected to staff the school.
