‘Virtual Truckers’ Vie For Freight Business

The Internet is having a major impact on the way trucking companies do business by making it easier to communicate with customers and reducing the time it takes to process transactions.

Now a group of trucking executives, backed by $3 million in venture capital, has launched a business that uses the Internet to compete directly against asset-based transportation service providers.

The business, called freightPro.com, contracts with independent carriers, warehouses and drivers to provide less-than-truckload freight transportation and uses Web technology to do everything from rating shipments and scheduling pickups to tracking loads and billing customers.
