Volvo Opens Medical Center at Maryland Facility
Volvo Group said it opened a medical center at its Hagerstown, Md., powertrain facility for employees and their dependents.
The Family First Medical Center & Pharmacy is staffed full time and offers routine primary care, chronic-condition management and physical therapy.
The $1 million center is independently managed and operated by Take Care Health Systems, a subsidiary of Walgreens, according to Volvo.
“Beyond its employee wellness benefits, we believe this center will also help us attract and retain top talent, while reducing costs for both our employees and the company,” Wade Watson, vice president and plant manager, said in a statement.
The medical center is staffed by a full-time physician and Walgreens pharmacist, as well as a nurse practitioner, wellness nurse, physical therapist and medical-support personnel.
In 2012, the Hagerstown plant produced more than 45,000 engines and 21,000 transmissions for Volvo Group brands.
