Volvo Supports European Truck Emissions Regulations

The Volvo Group said it supports proposals to regulate truck emissions by the European Union, as long as the regulations consider trucks’ role transportation freight.

“Trucks perform important transport work, and emission measurements must take into consideration the load transported by the vehicles, not only how much each vehicle emits over a certain distance,” Volvo CEO Leif Johansson said in a statement Monday.

Johansson proposed regulating truck emissions based on the amount of freight a truck carries and the distance it travels, not exclusively its emissions.

The truck maker CEO added that he is not concerned about technical barriers to meeting emissions requirements.
