Volvo Trucks said that fifth wheel coupling devices from Jost International will now be standard equipment on Volvo VN and VHD tractors manufactured at its Dublin, Va., plant, which assembles all Volvo trucks sold in North America.
“Introduction of this new standard fifth wheel represents our ongoing focus on safety, driver productivity and customer value,” said Frank Bio, Volvo Trucks’ product manager.
“We appreciate Jost’s broad product range and availability of information to help specify a fifth wheel based on vehicle application,” he said.
With only four moving parts, Jost fifth wheels are one of the simplest and safest fifth wheel coupling devices available, Volvo said in a statement. The design employs a spring-loaded steel locking bar that automatically secures the kingpin once it slides into position.
“We appreciate the opportunity to expand our partnership with Volvo Trucks and to further our shared values of safety and driver comfort,” said Rich Carroll, Jost International’s vice president of sales & marketing.
