Volvo Trucks North America has joined research organizations to announce its “Trusted Truck” technology, which it says will allow safe trucks to bypass inspection stations.
VTNA, along with the National Transportation Research Center and the University of Tennessee, demonstrated the technology to government and industry officials Friday in Knoxville, Tenn., the truck maker said.
If implemented, Trusted Truck would wirelessly send information to inspection stations from trucks that have been deemed to be safe and trusted, allowing it to bypass the station, Volvo said in a statement. Volvo has been developing the technology since 2004.
The technology would allow inspectors to focus on unsafe trucks, in addition to providing fuel and time savings for fleets, VTNA said
