Volvo’s 3Q Operating Profit Improves

Truck maker Volvo AB’s earnings before interest and taxes were about $772 million, with its truck-unit operating profit rising 1%, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

Sweden-based Volvo raised its 2007 forecast for European sales and said North American vehicle orders in the quarter reversed a decline earlier in the year, Bloomberg reported.

Overall third-quarter net income fell 21% to about $483 million or 24 cents a share, while sales rose 13% percent to about $10.5 billion, helped by two acquisitions.

Operating profit increased 54% from a year earlier following a writedown last year at its Mack Truck division, Bloomberg reported.

Volvo AB is the parent company of Mack and Volvo Trucks North America.
