Volvo Group’s India-based joint venture with Eicher Motors has launched the Pro Series of trucks and buses, which are designed specifically for India and similar markets.

The 11 commercial vehicles range from 5 to 49 tons in gross vehicle weight, Volvo said.

“India is a very important market to us, and the Eicher brand is an integral part of the Volvo Group’s strategy to expand in Asia and other growth markets,” Volvo CEO Olof Persson said in a Dec. 2 statement. “ The range presented by [VE Commercial Vehicles] today positions Eicher on a new level, capturing growth opportunities in markets with significant, untapped potential.”

VECV has been working to develop the Pro Series for five years, it said. The vehicles are designed to maximize fuel efficiency, loading capacity and uptime, among other considerations. VECV also will export the Pro Series to South East Asia, Africa and other markets.

Production of the Pro Series vehicles will start in February in Indian facilities that have been upgraded for the new line.
