Volvo AB said Tuesday its August North American deliveries fell by 33%, to 1,267 units.
Total truck unit sales worldwide fell 52% as demand in Eastern Europe and the Middle East continued to slump, Bloomberg reported.
Volvo AB is the parent company of Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks.
Total sales fell by more than half to 7,109 trucks, from 14,711 units, Gothenburg, Sweden-based Volvo said in a statement. That compares with a fall of 54% to 8,899 units in July.
Truck deliveries in Eastern Europe fell 84% while the Middle East fell 82% compared with last year, Bloomberg said.
Volvo said in July that the third quarter would be “difficult” and reiterated a forecast that the European market for heavy trucks would decrease by at least 50% in 2009, with the North American market contracting up to 40%.
