The Volvo Group said Monday its North American heavy-duty truck deliveries fell to 1,115 vehicles, down 62% from a year ago.

Overall, the company’s worldwide truck deliveries fell 57% year-over-year, though orders were up 3% from April.

Total heavy-duty deliveries worldwide fell 63% to 5,775 units, the company said in a statement.

Sweden-based Volvo AB is the parent company of U.S.-based Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks.

VTNA’s deliveries plunged 75%, to 398 trucks, while Mack Trucks deliveries declined 47%, to 626 units.

The VTNA drop was due to low demand and a temporary peak in deliveries in May 2008 following a union strike last year.

Mack “has been particularly affected by low industry-wide sales of dump trucks and mixers resulting from the dramatic decline in housing construction,” Volvo said.
