Volvo AB’s August North American heavy-duty truck sales jumped 151% from a year ago to 1,210 units, the company said Wednesday.
Worldwide deliveries doubled to 4,788 units for the month, Sweden-based Volvo said in a statement. Volvo AB is the parent company of Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks.
Year-to-date North American deliveries are 51% higher than a year ago through August, at 6,758 units, the company said.
The higher North American deliveries reflect “increased demand in the highway truck segment of the Class 8 market,” and the “very positive reaction” of customers to selective catalytic reduction technology-equipped trucks that meet 2010 environmental standards, Volvo said.
South American deliveries rose 78% to 1,500 units and European deliveries jumped 90% to 1,157 units for the month.
