A stretch of Interstate 5 near Bellingham, Wash., will be reduced to as low as one lane on weeknights starting this week, and on weekends later this month, the Washington State Department of Transportation advised.
Crews will be allowed to close the highway to one lane of traffic from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday nights, and 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursdays.
The construction will repair broken panels, smooth bridge transitions and pave rough ramps on a three-mile stretch of I-5, from Samish Way to Sunset Drive.
The first weekend lane closure is planned for April 11-14, WSDOT said. Weekend work will take up to four weekends to complete and is weather dependent.
On average, nearly 80,000 vehicles use I-5 daily in the construction area, the department said.
