Washington Pulls Wi-Fi From Rest Areas

Washington state has pulled the plug on wireless Internet access highway rest areas across the state, the Associated Press reported.

The service was established two years ago at 28 of the state’s 42 rest areas, but the Washington Department of Transportation said that not enough people were using it to pay for the cost, AP reported.

As a result, the two companies that set up the system, Parsons Transportation Group and Road Connect, ended the service Sept. 1, AP said.

State transportation officials and company representatives set up Wi-Fi at rest areas so travelers could check road conditions, e-mail or just take a break from driving, AP reported.
