Washington Vehicle Tax Killed

Washington voters last week scrapped the state’s motor vehicle excise tax and replaced it with a $30 annual fee.

The ballot measure drastically reduces the state vehicle tax and requires voter approval for any future increase in taxes, fees or charges at all levels of government.

At first glance, the tax cut would seem like a win for the industry, but the Washington Trucking Associations is concerned that the huge hole created in the state’s budget by Initiative 695 will have disastrous consequences for highway infrastructure.

A little more than 57% of state’s registered voters approved the initiative on Nov. 2.
