Watkins, Saddle Creek Join in Logistics Venture

Watkins Motor Lines, the nation’s eighth-largest less-than-truckload carrier, has formed a joint venture with Saddle Creek Corp. to offer warehousing and distribution services nationwide.

The venture, called Velocity Logistics, will be based in Lakeland, Fla., where Watkins and Saddle Creek are both headquartered. The two companies will have equal ownership in the enterprise.

Jim Miller, president of Watkins’ transportation services, said the goal is to offer customers “a complete supply chain service.”

Velocity’s first contract is with an electronics company in Dallas, Miller said.
