Weaning Buyers from Customization

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Volvo Trucks North America wants to make truck shopping as easy as car shopping: The customer picks the vehicle from an option package with high-tech features and leaves the dealership with a comprehensive maintenance plan.

To this end, the truck manufacturer showed off and announced several new products during the truck show, which closed March 27.

“It is our ultimate goal to offer our customers a truck with a sealed hood — just buy it and drive it,” said Marc F. Gustafson, chief executive officer at Volvo.

Though he acknowledged that day has not yet arrived, Gustafson unveiled a no-cost preventive maintenance program to encourage buyers to forego extensive customization.

MVP Care is now available to buyers of the 610, 660 and 770 models. It aims to limit the number of choices a customer has in loading up his rig with features.
