Weekly Intermodal Traffic Slips 1.5%

Total Rises 3.6% for First Six Months of Year

Weekly intermodal volume declined by 1.5% for the week ended Saturday from a year ago but rose 3.6% for the first half of the year, the Association of American Railroads reported.

Traffic slipped to 249,673 trailers and containers, AAR said in its weekly report. For the first six months, intermodal traffic rose to just over 6.27 million units.

Rail carload traffic rose 1% to 281,367 year-over-year but slipped 1.5% through the end of June, the rail trade group said.

Petroleum and oil products led the weekly gain, with a 26.6% jump, while motor vehicles and parts rose 4.9%. Grain products fell 13.8%.
