Weekly Jobless Claims Rise

Initial jobless claims climbed last week to a one-month high, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims rose by 10,000 for the week ended Saturday, to 383,000, Labor said.

The initial claims figure was higher than economists’ forecasts of 370,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose to 374,500, from 370,750.

Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended May 19 fell by 36,000, to 3.24 million.
