Truckload carrier Werner Enterprises said its fourth-quarter profit rose 20% as it trimmed the size of its fleet to save money.
Fourth-quarter net income was $18.6 million, or 26 cents per share, up from $15.6 million, or 22, a year ago.
Revenue fell 7% to $490.6 million, Werner said late Thursday.
For the full year, Werner earned $67.6 million, or 94 cents per share, compared with $75.4 million, or $1.02, a year earlier. Revenue rose 5% to $2.17 billion.
Werner reduced the size of its van fleet in the quarter by 500 trucks, and this month cut it by an additional 150 trucks.
Werner is ranked No. 13 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
