Werner Enterprises said late Wednesday its first-quarter profit rose 30% on “more steady and balanced” freight trends early this year.
Net income rose to $21.2 million, or 29 cents per share, from $16.3 million, or 22 cents, a year ago.
Revenue rose 6% to $498.4 million, the truckload carrier said in a statement, citing warm weather in the first three months of the year.
Trucking revenue net of fuel surcharges rose 1.5% to $321.2 million, while non-trucking revenue including brokerage and logistics, jumped 20.6% to $79.8 million.
Werner Enterprises is ranked No. 11 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
