Wialon named Top telematics services providers
Wialon named Top telematics services providers. BrickHouse Security leads the way for North America
Every year Wialon, an ultimate GPS tracking platform with over 3.3 million vehicles connected in 150 countries, recognises the best telematics services providers in different regions. ‘Best of the best’ are those companies, who, over the last 12 months, have connected the largest number of vehicles to the platform in their regions. The winners were named during the Wialon Top Partners award ceremony and this year BrickHouse Security topped the ranking in North America.
We caught up with BrickHouse Security, CEO, Todd Morris to discuss the telematics market in more detail.
Can you give some background on BrickHouse Security – the markets you operate in, and what your main products are.
We work with a variety of businesses, both large and small. And we are proud to say that we work with 400 of the Fortune 500 companies. We also work with more than 2,500 local and national government bodies, including the NYPD and the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, and in addition, we also sell direct-to-consumers. As a privately held company, our financial information is not made publicly available – but I can tell you that last year we experienced 30% growth.
Currently, our main products are GPS and video and we provide these solutions across North America. Although many of the companies are based across this region, they have global coverage so we are able to serve customers wherever they are based. Our reach is helped by the fact we have relationships with all major telecom carriers across North America, mainly working with T-Mobile and AT&T.
Let’s take a deeper dive. Tell me how much you work with vehicles, and what kind of software you use – where do you stand with open-source for example?
The GPS tracking market for us is approximately 60% of our overall business and many of the assets that we are tracking are the cargo being transported by the vehicles. Often, we are tracking inventory and products that are going onto trucks that aren’t owned by the transporter.
On the software side, we use a combination of proprietary solutions and open solutions. We don’t discriminate between them, and use the best solution for the job. But when you are choosing an open solution, it offers much more flexibility and we gain excellent insight into what’s going on inside. When you choose a custom solution that’s more proprietary like Wialon, we look for great APIs and functionality. We wouldn’t be working with Wialon if they didn’t have great APIs and developer support.
Wialon’s software really shines when you’re talking about large volumes of vehicles – particularly, corporate and fleet. They have a deep product with many functionalities that are designed to help you manage large volumes of assets and vehicles, and give you the potential to see them all in one place very easily. We rarely have a customer come to us and ask for a feature that’s not already available, or can’t easily be configured.
What new markets are you looking to move into and what markets are you already involved in that you are looking to grow?
We are looking to grow our big practices in retail by supporting their businesses abilities to combat theft and inventory loss and also provide better customer service. We also deal with a lot of municipalities, as well as police departments, and first responders.
The consumer business is still very big and there are a lot of people who are worried about their boats, their ATV’s, and teenage drivers. Our technology is there to give everyone peace of mind.
Does your company get involved in the discussion about where IoT is going and Internet of People is going?
I think that the Internet of People is definitely a trend that is going to continue. Personal tracking already represents 40% of our business and covers everything from tracking employees in high-risk areas, to pets, children, and people who are doing protective detail. People are trying to keep track of everything and it is people and employees that matter. We have a lot of companies that are dealing with a large pool of remote workers that work alone. From nurses going house-to-house helping people, to telephone line repairers. If something happens to them, you don’t want to have to wait for someone to drive by and find them so they can be helped.
