Williford to Lead Ryder’s Supply Chain Unit

Ryder System said Wednesday it appointed John Williford to serve in the newly created position of president of Ryder's global supply chain solutions unit.

Williford was most recently with Golden Gate Logistics, a Palo Alto, Calif., logistics company, at which he was chief executive officer since 2006. Prior to that role, he spent 25 years as part of CNF Inc. (now Con-way Inc.), serving as CEO of the company’s supply chain business, Menlo Worldwide.

Menlo was created in 1990, when Williford, then CNF’s marketing director, proposed the creation of a separate business unit within CNF to capitalize on opportunities in the growing field of outsourced logistics.

Williford will take his new post June 23, reporting to Ryder Chairman and CEO Greg Swienton, Ryder said in a statement.

Ryder is ranked No. 5 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
