Wolf Names 10 to I-81 Task Force

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) appointed a 10-member task force to develop plans for improving Interstate 81 in Virginia.

The I-81 Safety Task Force will work with the state’s Department of Transportation to ensure that measures designed to improve truck safety are included in plans for the highway.

The committee will be chaired by John Marsh, a former congressman and Secretary of the Army.

“The idea for this task force began at a truck safety meeting in Harrisonburg last month,” Wolf said. “I promised that I would help establish a task force and I am pleased that it is under way.”

Wolf also promised that he would ride in a truck along I-81, which he did two weeks ago with an owner-operator and representatives of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association.

The panel also includes Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Rick Boucher (D-Va.), representatives of the state transportation department and state police, the Federal Highway Administration, and Dwight Houff, owner of Houff Transfer, Weyers Cave, Va.
